Microprocessor Training in PTC 1984

Microprocessor is made of multi layers Large Scale Integrated Circuits (LSIs) which are collections of thousands of Integrated Circuits (ICs) who contain millions of Transistors and billions of other electronic components like capacitors, inductors and resistors. In its simplest form a microprocessor consists of three circuits:

Microprocessor is made of multi layers Large Scale Integrated Circuits (LSIs) which are collections of thousands of Integrated Circuits (ICs) who contain millions of Transistors and billions of other electronic components like capacitors, inductors and resistors. In its simplest form a microprocessor consists of three circuits:

1.    Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU)

2.    Control Unit

3.    Register Array

For computers, 1 is true or “ON” and 0 is false or “OFF”. It is often said that computers think in ones and zeroes. The most reliable way to store, retrieve and process data is by flipping electronic switches called transistors on (1) and off (0). IC (Integrated Circuit) is an assembly of electronic components in which hundreds of millions of transistors and capacitors are interconnected and built up on a thin substrate of semiconductor material (usually silicon) to form a small chip or wafer.

In short Microprocessor is a digital device on a chip that can fetch instructions from memory, decode and execute them to give results.
