Additional Increment by Managing Director 1988

 

Automatic Test Equipment for Airbus A-300 and Boeing-747 were imported from Aerospatiale France and Honeywell USA accordingly. As PIA received first four DC-10 aircrafts out of total ten ordered I offered my services to designing & fabricating Automatic Test Equipment for autopilot system components. My request was accepted and Management decided not to import the same saving a huge amount of foreign exchange.

With the assistance of my brilliant Junior Officers Mr. Najam-uz-Zaman and Mr. Anwar Saeed (Late), I was able to design and fabricate mini Automatic Test Equipment within a year. An inaugural ceremony took place, Managing Director Air marshal Azeem Daudpota being the chief guest, announced an additional increment to my salary with a short speech of commendations.

This mini Automatic Test Equipment was fabricated utilizing my office working table. The monitoring equipment and displays were fixed at the top of the table while power supplies were installed within the drawers of my table. The side racks were joined through harnesses of flight equipment under test and repair thereafter. Many visitors including foreigners could not believe if this mini ATE was locally designed and fabricated spending a very tiny amount of Pakistani Rupees.
