Observing
a tendency of designing, creative modifications and fabricating; senior
management decided to declare a separate cell in Instrument Overhaul Shop named
“Test Panels Fabrication Cell” under my command with two creative minded Junior
Officers.

PIA ordered
a total of ten DC-10 aircrafts from McDonald Douglas Co. USA. A package was
offered from the seller to making a wide body hanger or all the test equipment
along with aircrafts. Buyer preferred to get hanger, so not even a single test panel
was received to test Automatic Flight Guidance System components of the
aircraft.
I
accepted the challenge to design and fabricate all the test panels required in
instrument Overhaul shop. With the help of just two assistants I designed and
fabricated a total of 52 test panels saving a substantial amount of foreign
exchange for PIA within three years with respect to the failure rate of
aircraft’s autopilot components.
This
remarkable achieving of mine was highlighted to Higher Management and an
appreciation letter from Director Engineering was awarded to me which was first
ever appreciation letter from Director Engineering Syed Ajaz Ali.
