A Valuable Idea from Abroad

Designing and fabricating test equipment was indeed a very valuable idea I conceived from my first ever foreign visit. Despite various social activities like sports, scouting and politics my most favorite hobby was to carry out repairs of all electrical & electronic gadgets used in almost every home. I am proud to be the first ever person who designed and fabricated a UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) at home with locally purchased parts with a total cost of Pak. Rupees 1500 in 1980 in just 35 days.

While travelling back home from Hamburg I had in my mind all the features of locally manufacturing test equipment to be needed in Instrument Overhaul shop. Within a span of one year I alongwith two juniors designed and fabricated 52 test benches for the instruments used in cockpit and their associated computers/black boxes of all types of aircrafts. Prior approval was granted from the higher management to carry out purchase of various parts from the local market to do so in addition to my duties and responsibilities assigned as Aircraft Engineer. As a result a huge amount of foreign exchange was saved by not importing the same equipment. Special award/appreciation was rewarded by the then Chairman Pakistan International Airlines Air marshal (Ret) M. Azeem Daudpota to me and my team of two Officer Engineering personal. Furthermore I was promoted to Maintenance Manager too.

I am convinced “Honesty and Hard work always pays you off maybe any late morning”
